Howard Block

 

Howard has over 30 years of business experience and, as well as specialist skills in the finance and media sectors, he has a breadth of business knowledge having worked as an external auditor in the Big 4; an internal auditor in financial services, manufacturing and IT; a finance director and controller in both the service and manufacturing sectors; and an international business consultant.

Howard is currently a partner in CSI and a director in an international business consulting firm providing Assurance, Corporate Governance, Risk Management and Compliance Advisory Services to multinational organisations worldwide.

Howard has also worked as a non-executive director for several regulated companies and contributed in specialist roles such as Money Laundering Reporting Officer and a member of the Audit Committee.

Howard has had considerable experience of working in multinational insurance and banking companies and has worked on significant Solvency II, MiFID, Internal Audit, and Sarbanes-Oxley projects in these sectors.

Howard has experience of working with teams in both the second and third line of defence.

At the second line of defence he has been involved with the development of a Risk Management function involving the initiation of policies and procedures and the development of risk dashboards and reporting protocols for the Chief Risk Officer and relevant governance committees. He also has experience of working alongside Compliance on Anti-Money Laundering/FCPA, Anti- Fraud and Corruption, Data Privacy, and Business Continuity Planning initiatives.

At the third line of defence he has extensive experience of end-to-end financial, operational, and themed internal audits. He has also worked internationally on Sarbanes-Oxley assignments of both entity-level and operational processes.

Howard first worked with Ernst & Young, where he gained his initial experience in risk-based auditing techniques. He then spent 3 years in industry as a Financial Controller and Commercial Manager where he was involved in financial and cost accounting system design and implementation, change management, and management and financial reporting.

Howard is a Registered Auditor and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (FCA). He holds an ICAI Diploma in International Financial Reporting Standards and is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin

Howard holds a Yellow Belt in Lean Six Sigma and has experience of project management methodologies such as Prince 2.

He guest lectures on Corporate Governance and Internal Audit at professionals levels, most recently to CIMA finalists at Dublin Business School.
